Meet Cara

"Horses and people are a great passion of mine and being able to bring the two together in order to create healing and empowerment has been a dream come true. From 8 years old, horses have formed a huge part of my life. I grew up competing in Dressage, Show Jumping and Equitation and since then have developed a more natural approach to working with horses, which brings out the best in both equine and human.  In 2012, I completed my Bachelors Degree, cum laude, majoring in Psychology and Communications. In 2013 I started doing my studies and research in Equine Facilitated Therapies and Activities and spent some time in USA gaining valuable experience in the field, working with youth at risk, adults and children with mental and learning difficulties, family groups, and the elderly with disorders such as dementia and Parkinson's disorder and individuals in rehab facilities. In 2014 I became an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning with the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International and in 2015 I completed my Honours Degree in Psychology.

I started Equi-Formed Therapy because the experience I have working with horses and the education I have in human psychology unify well in being able to provide an innovative service of developing people emotionally, cognitively and socially through working with horses. In today's society, one needs to be able to gain the tools to empower ourselves and provide the opportunity for our children to do the same and this is what is achieved at Equi-Formed Therapy. I have always wanted to make a difference and in this way, I can."

Meet the Herd

Title Holder is our oldest member of the herd. He is a Thoroughbred and ex-race horse. He competed in Dressage and Showjumping when he was younger and now spends his time leading his heard. He is a wise old man and loves to relax under the trees and roll in the muddiest patches. He is a brilliant teacher of leadership skills and how to be clear and concise in communicating.

Black Magic came from a stud farm in Karkloof. She is a South African Warmblood and is the youngest of the heard and also the largest. She is sweet and sensitive and participants who work with her are able to learn how to be more aware of themselves and their environment.

Casper is our smallest horse but has the biggest heart. He is a Miniature Horse x Welsh Pony. He loves cuddles and attention but still likes to be treated like any other horse. He is a great confidence builder for those that are not used to the larger horses and haven't been around horses all that much.
